Overview

Dubai Department of Civil Aviation is the governing body that oversees the management of Dubai International Airport and its affiliated divisions – the Dubai Cargo Village, Dubai Duty Free, Dubai International Hotel and Dubai Aviation Club.

The Department of Civil Aviation was established on March 18, 1971 to handle all matters relating to airport operations – including granting traffic rights and operating permissions – and providing progressive direction that has marked the meteoric growth of aviation in Dubai ever since.

For the department, 1985 is an important milestone. It was in this year that HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum was appointed President of the Department of Civil Aviation. Under his leadership, the Department has established a world class aviation infrastructure in the form of Dubai International Airport and Dubai Cargo Village.

In these past two decades, Dubai has transformed from a regional player into a globally recognised trade, business and tourism centre. With its economic boom sustaining through almost a decade now, and completely breaking free from a petroleum base, Dubai is attracting ever increasing number of businesses from around the world.

In Dubai change is the only constant. The Department has kept pace with the rapid growth the city has witnessed over the years, both in terms of capacity expansion and best of the breed technology for its cargo and civil aviation infrastructure. The Department is presently executing several pioneering projects, which in the coming years, will establish Dubai as the world’s civil aviation and logistics centre.
